Jay-Z & Mary J. Blige Announce North American Tour

Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige will co-headline a 25-date, North American outing celled the "Mary J. Blige & Jay-Z: Heart of the City" tour.  The tour kicks off on March 22 at Miami's American Airlines Arena and will hit cities along the eastern seaboard as well as New Orleans, Houston, Las Vegas and Oakland.  The "Mary J. Blige & Jay-Z: Heart of the City" tour is the pinnacle of Mary and Jay's long-time collaboration which began in 1996 with the hit single "Can't Knock The Hustle."      

 

Jay-Z Stepping Down as President of Def Jam Records

Jay-Z (A.K.A. Shawn Carter) is stepping down as president of Universal Music Group's Def Jam Records effective by the end of the year.  According to Jay-Z, "Now it's time for me to take on new challenges...I am pleased to have had the opportunity to build upon the Def Jam legacy". The 38 year old legendary rapper took over as president of the rap label in 2005 and signed Grammy-nominated R&B singers Rihanna and Ne-Yo.

Jay-Z, A.K.A. Jigga, A.K.A., Shawn Carter is the man!  According to Nielsen SoundScan Jay-Z's new album titled "American Gangster" has sold 425,000 units in the U.S. last week becoming his 10th No. 1 album on The Billboard 200 chart. The official "American Gangster" soundtrack game in at No. 36 this week with 21,000 units sold. Jay-Z has tied Elvis Presley in second place for the most No. 1 albums on the chart.

Rappers are getting PAID!  According to Forbes.com, Jay-Z is the king of the hill, pulling in $34 million in 2006.  It's no wonder because Jay-Z pulls in money from his records, as President of Def Jam, as co-owner of the NBA's New Jersey Nets and via numerous other ventures.  Jay-Z is followed by 50 cent who made a total of $32 million.  Diddy made $28 million, Tibaland $21 million and Dr. Dre $20 million.

 

Jay-Z May Leave Island Because of Jermaine Dupri
