The record company of Chaka Demus and Pliers is being sued for more than $10 million in unpaid royalties and trademark infringement.  The reggae act, Chaka Demus and Pliers, is best known for their nineties hit "Murder She Wrote".

Jamaican dancehall artist/lyricist Vybz Kartel has written songs about Clarks footwear that has sparked a stampede to the stores. The first single “Clarks” featured his favorite styles on its cover, followed by 2 more releases "Clarks Again" and "Clarks 3". 

 

Cocoa Tea & Mighty Sparrow Release Songs to Support Obama

The Caribbean people are also giving props to presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama.  Reggae/dancehall superstar Cocoa Tea (A.K.A. Calvin Scott) has recorded a song dedicated to Obama titled "Barack Obama". While Trinidadian calypso superstar Mighty Sparrow has a song out called "Barack the Magnificent".  (See Videos)

The latest Sean Paul selection to bubble up on the Jamaican scene is “Watch Them Roll” a high-energy dancefloor banger in the tradition of “Get Busy.” A home-made YouTube clip of the song had already clocked 100,000 views by the time Sean Paul’s actual video was uploaded. (See Video)

Jamaican Dancehall Superstar Beenie Man, A.K.A Moses Davis is getting a divorce after marrying his wife, D' Angel Downer last year August (2006) in a lavish wedding in Jamaica.  Beenie went on Irie FM and aired out his dirty laundry as to what happened. (See Video Interview)  Apparently, Beenie says that his wife may have been cheating on him with a mutual friend.

Dancehall-Reggae is big in Japan.  Many Dancehall artists are making a lot of money selling their music to the Japanese.  Some artists have been releasing their albums only in Japan or have it released there first.  Surprisingly, one of the most popular Dancehall-Queens is a Japanese named Junko Kudo.
