Rick Ross in Trouble for Using Gotti's Name in his New Album

July 22, 2010 12:37 PM | Rick Ross | Comments (0)

Rick Ross is in real trouble legally with regards to jacking the name of gangster “Freeway” Ricky Ross. Now the rapper has gone and riled up the son of John Gotti after his father’s famous nickname was used in Rick’s new album, “Teflon Don.”

The name was first used by New York newspapers to describe John Gotti, the former head of New York’s Gambino crime family who won multiple acquittals in the 1980s and 1990s.  Carmine Agnello said, “My grandfather paid his dues for that nickname. That was my grandfather’s life.”  She is attempting to launch a rap career with the name Carmine Gotti.

The 24 year-old Agnello said, “He should have asked for permission. A standup, respectable guy would come and ask ‘If I could use the nickname. I think he’s a great artist, but you can’t just start calling yourself that to sell records. He wants to go for that whole image, but hey, be yourself.”

Ross, born William Leonard Roberts, took on the rap name “Rick Ross,” presumably after Los Angeles cocaine kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross. The latter is now suing the rapper over the use of his name and image.
A judge denied Freeway’s request to block the release of “Teflon Don” last week.
