Missy Elliot Petitioned to Cancel Israel Tour

July 15, 2010 9:08 PM | Missy Elliot | Rap | Comments (0)

Earlier this month the rapper/producer Missy Elliot was pushed off stage at "The Britain’s Wireless Music Festival" after exceeding her time slot for the performance. The incident brought her into a dilemma with regards to her upcoming international tour.

She is scheduled to perform in Tel Aviv, Israel on the 15th of July but a Canadian group is said to boycott her show. This will be her first to perform in Israel if ever, but Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East are fighting to stop the show out of respect to the territorial dispute between Palestine and Israel.

An online petition states, “As a member of a visible minority, and someone who has long contributed to various social causes, Ms. Elliott may have sensitivity to the plight of the oppressed. Santana, Elvis Costello, the Pixes, and other prominent performers have recently cancelled concerts in Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel in 2005.”

Well, what is it to do when the tickets for the concert have already been sold? Snoop Dogg had the same problem way back in 2008 when a Palestinian group told him to stay back from Israel.

There’s no update from Missy, guess it’s safe to assume the tour will resume.
