Google to Enter Music Download Business

July 6, 2010 3:46 PM | Interesting Stuff | Comments (0)

Microsoft Bing has set up programs for music downloads and now Google is to enter the same business by planning its own service before year ends.  Google is building its own services that would be tied to its search engine and Android mobile operating system.

10% of all Internet search queries are entertainment-related, with music lyrics alone accounting for 70% of those searches, according to Microsoft.

There are two issues arising regarding Google’s plan. First is "what is a search engine?" Searches were based on bringing back neutral results. Search companies don't market products within their own results except for the text ads that run alongside them.

Apple’s iTunes store dominates the music download business and the second concern is how much Google can challenge it.
