Blues Guitarist and Singer Phillip Walker Dies

July 23, 2010 2:44 PM | Blues | Comments (0)

The 73 year-old Blues guitarist and singer Phillip Walker has died. Marc Lipkin, publicity director for Alligator Records, says Walker died Thursday of heart failure in Palm Springs, reports the Associated Press.  Walker performed for more than 50 years, recording many solo albums. He had toured with zydeco legend Clifton Chenier for two years.

He was recognized as one of the top guitarists when he moved to California in 1959. For a little time he joined Little Richard’s band.

Phillip Walker had played for such stars as Etta James and Lowell Fulson.

For the past ten years, Walker continued to record albums and tour, including an October 2009 stint in South Africa. His most recent album, “Going Back Home,” was released in 2007.

Funeral arrangements are not yet final and still to be announced.
