Bret Michaels Continues to Recover But Suffers Side Effect

April 29, 2010 2:06 PM | Bret Michaels | Rock | Comments (0)

Rocker and reality TV star Bret Michaels continues to recover after suffering a brain hemorrhage last week. However, the 47 year old has developed a side effect that causes seizures according to a statement posted on the former Poison front man’s website. The condition is called hyponatremia and stems from a lack of sodium.

Michaels is said to be conscious and in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital.

Michaels suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, which caused bleeding in the fluid-filled spaces around the base of his brain. He was rushed to the hospital on Friday with a severe headache. , Michaels was a contestant on "The Celebrity Apprentice", currently shown on prime time TV.

Doctors have stated that Michaels is very lucky because his condition could have been fatal.  Doctor's believe that "With further testing and rehabilitation, they are hopeful that Bret will gradually improve as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months".

Michaels was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 6. He had an emergency appendectomy April 12, 2010 after complaining of stomach pains before he was scheduled to perform in San Antonio.

Our prayers are with Bret Michaels.
