Chris Brown Pleads Not Guilty

In the alleged altercation that took place on February 8, 2009, Brown is said to have punched, choked, and threatened to kill Rihanna hours before their scheduled performances at the Grammy Awards, according to police records.
Prosecutors say if Brown is convicted, he could face anywhere from probation to a maximum four years and eight months in state prison, but legal experts believe that he will likely accept a plea deal on lesser charges. This would result in anywhere from 30 to 180 days in jail and three to five years probation. Los Angeles criminal defense attorney Jeffery Rubenstein, who is not involved in the case, states that "A plea deal would be the quickest and least messy way to end this case. It would also let Rihanna off the hook from testifying in court."
On the other side of the coin, Rihanna's attorney, Donald Etra, told reporters that "Nothing's changed with regard to Rihanna's stance toward this case ... She will testify if subpoenaed and will do everything that's required of her to do." He also states that Rihanna is “doing fine. She's in Barbados now with her family."
