Toni Braxton is Suing Ex-Manager for $10 Million

January 16, 2007 8:26 PM | R&B | Toni Braxton | Comments (0)

Ok, this one we don't understand. According to reports, R&B singer Toni Braxton has been dropped from Blackground / Universal Motown. As a result she is now suing her ex-manager for $10 million for convincing her to leave her former label LaFace/Arista, where she had most of her success. How can you sue someone for giving you bad advise?

The lawsuit claims Toni hired Barry Hankerson in late 1997 and he helped her negotiate a five-album deal with Arista the following year which made over $20 million in advances.

However, Toni now claims the relationship turned sour in 2002 when Hankerson began using "fraud, deception and double-dealing" to get her to leave the lucrative deal with Arista and sign exclusively with his Blackground in 2003. But Toni, remember Hankerson helped you sign the initial lucritive deal at Arista. Maybe he thought we was getting you a better deal. I'm assuming Hankerson was looking to make some money too. So it's in his best interest to see you succeed.

The lawsuit claims Hankerson destroyed Toni's relationship with Arista through "underhanded double-talk" by secretly telling each party that the other wanted out of the relationship despite having sold at least 20 million albums together.

Come on Toni, the gravy train ran out and you wanted someone to blame!
