I'd say a HIT RECORD is 25% music, 25% lyrics and 50% promotions / marketing. I do believe GREAT promotions and marketing can produce a HIT RECORD. If no one hears it, it will never be a hit record, no matter how good it is.
It has been proven that the more a record gets played on the radio, the more it sells. Also, the more people will grow to like it. I've heard songs before that I thought were ok, and weeks later I grew to love it! Then there are records, where the first time I hear it, I know it's a HIT RECORD! |

you need marketing. I think you music can almost sound like shit and the same for your looks, if the marketing is good.

| i would personally say its the whole entire production. let me just say 10% of lyrics, 40 % of beat and 50% of promotion. Its all about airplay. People tend to like a song when they hear it all the time. let the djs play a dumb song on the radio all the time and in no time u'll c everybody responding to it. thats how it works. u wanna make a hit, it's all about promotion. |

Hi
I was around doing music for a number of years. One thing that helps but doesn't always do it is looks. But on the other hand I have seen some ugly ones get hits too. I think it is mainly the song and the exposure to the listeners. There are songs that are natural hits on their own that only need a little promotion, then there are the ones that are not but get there from promotion. The real hit song is one that has a very clever leric in it that is catchy and can relate to most of the listeners with a killer hook in it and a killer melody as well. with out too much promotion it will fly alot of the way on its own. A song that keeps your attention building up as it goes along. Thats how I write my songs. And when the song end the listener is wondering man what happened I like that.
Best wishes to every one ///Gene Gardiner |

| I believe that a hit record requires proper marketing and promotion, ofcourse as an artist I would love for a hit record to be based on lyrical content, originality and creativity, but we all know if that was the case 75% of the songs that are considered hits would not be considered, therefore if u want to make a hit song u have to dumb-down to your audience, keep it simple, catchy, and very elementary so its easy to learn and remember, basically if u can create a song that kids 17 and under will enjoy then u probably have a hit, if your music is to complex, then u may only be felt or understood but other artists or the few people who actually care about lyrics....me myself i probably will never have a hit record because i prefer to be true to my music and my beliefs, so my target fan group is the streets , the hood, straight underground, [/url] |

| I would say the more a song is heard the more likely it will become a hit. |

Unlike making a good music video to help promote a just o.k song, or promoting the hell out of an artist with a just o.k song; A great song does't need that much work to make people love it!!!
All it takes to make a great hit record is a great beat, and an artist who can tell a story or make the audience feel better than they did before this great song was played.
A great song can promote itself. |
